Information collected

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect: identity and contact details; membership and application information; identity numbers where required for membership or credit assessment; financial information where you apply for credit or business support; order and complaint details; website technical data (for example IP address, device and pages viewed); and communications you send us.

Purpose of collection

We use personal information to administer membership; communicate; process orders and complaints; assess applications; meet legal and regulatory duties where credit is involved; improve the website; and protect Lengau, members and the public against fraud and abuse.

Lawful basis / justification

Processing is typically based on one or more of: your consent (where we ask for it); performance of a contract or steps to enter a contract; a legal obligation; or Lengau's legitimate interests that do not override your rights, as POPIA allows.

Membership, identity and financial information

Membership records, identity numbers and financial information are used only for the purposes for which they were collected (or a compatible purpose permitted by law). They are not sold as a marketing list.

Communications

We may contact you about your membership, orders, complaints or applications. Marketing messages, where sent, should allow you to opt out as required by law.

We may use service providers to host the website, send email, process forms, store files or provide communications (for example WhatsApp as a channel you choose to use). Providers should process information only on Lengau's instructions and with appropriate safeguards, so far as reasonably practicable.

Cross-border transfers

Some hosting or email infrastructure may process data outside South Africa. Where that occurs, Lengau seeks to do so in a manner consistent with POPIA, including appropriate contractual or other safeguards where required.

Data security

Lengau implements reasonable and appropriate technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No website or organisation can claim absolute security.

Retention

Information is kept for as long as needed for the purpose collected, and for legal, tax, credit-regulatory and dispute-related periods where those apply, then deleted or de-identified as reasonably practicable.

Data subject rights, access and correction

Subject to POPIA, you may request access to your personal information, correction of inaccurate information, and in some cases deletion or restriction. Use the Contact page or +27 60 709 4406. We may need to verify your identity before acting.

Complaints

Raise privacy concerns with Lengau first via Complaints. You may also approach the Information Regulator (South Africa) where POPIA provides that right.

Privacy and PAIA/POPIA queries may be directed through the same official contact channels on this website. This page does not invent a personal name for an Information Officer. See also PAIA.

Photographs and videos

Lengau People’s Society may collect photographs and videos at events, including the Qatar Kings & Queens Celebration. This may include images of people who attend or take part. Media is used on this official website and related official media channels to record community events, share highlights, and keep a public archive. Only authorised Lengau administrators may upload, edit or unpublish gallery media. Private consent records (who uploaded an item, permission confirmation, whether minors appear, and any consent reference) are not shown to website visitors.

By attending or participating in an event, individuals should be informed that photography and video recording may take place and may be used on Lengau People’s Society’s official website and official media channels, subject to applicable privacy requirements. This notice does not replace specific consent where that is required. Identifiable photographs or videos of children under 18 should not be published without parent or guardian consent, unless a lawful exception applies.

Access to media files on the public site is limited to items that administrators have authorised for publication. Unpublished items and consent records are stored separately and are not listed for ordinary visitors. Lengau takes reasonable steps to protect media and related records against unauthorised access, alteration, loss or disclosure. We do not publish ID numbers, passport numbers, phone numbers, home addresses, banking information, private documents, travel documents, confidential membership information or private correspondence in captions or public descriptions.

Event media is kept for as long as it remains relevant to the public archive and organisational record, then reviewed. If you believe your image or personal information has been published without appropriate permission, use the Privacy & Media Request form on the Qatar Kings & Queens gallery, or contact us on +27 60 709 4406. Requests are reviewed according to applicable South African law (including POPIA) and this policy. Removal is not automatic in every case. Subject to POPIA, you may request access, correction, or in some cases deletion or restriction of your personal information.

2014–2026 Historical Archive

If you submit a story, testimonial, entrepreneur impact account or historical evidence through the Historical Archive, we collect the details you provide (name, contact, location, narrative, files) to preserve organisational history and, where you have given a publication preference, to consider public display after review. Publication is never automatic. Contact numbers, identity numbers and financial details are not shown on the public timeline. Submissions are retained for archive purposes for as long as they remain relevant to the historical record, then reviewed.
